In Rome a Belgian lady proclaimed her disgust for the amount of security the US President receives compared with other world leaders.

I must admit I was astonished. What country would want to see the US President attacked or killed on their soil??? None really. There are a few that may have a population that would claim otherwise - but frankly....no government would want that responsibility!

This Belgian was convinced that it is the US embassies abroad that are responsible for the security of the US President. I began to explain that it is...in fact....the Secret Service and other US agencies that coordinate such security. Can you imagine the US leaving such security to someone else? It's US policy for the Secret Service to spearhead any such security measures.

It is just another example of the how the world abroad sees the U.S. As much as many foreign countries are more politically savvy than America as a whole....foreign citizens have their own misconceptions of American policies and procedures.

As a Canadian, I will admit is sad to say the US still has so much power. But really...do you really think that anyone responsible government in the world would want to see an American President assisnated on their soil....or even such an attack to take place? No.

You may find it sad. But it is true.

Look at how the economy was effected by 9/11. Look at how the US economy continues to effect the globe.

That said.....rock on Obama!
